How to plan Metin2 Biologist research

Count successful deliveries apart from items spent, budget for failures, and read the 22-hour wait as research time only.

A failed delivery still spends the item

A Biologist stage asks for a fixed number of successful deliveries. Every delivery takes one research item before the success roll. A failure still consumes the item and still starts the wait before the next delivery. The shortest plan is one item per success you still need; the average is higher, because failed deliveries are part of the long run.

Biologist Chaegirab takes the research from level 30 to level 90, and Seon-Pyeong takes level 92 and level 94. In the research calculator you choose the first and the last stage. Successful deliveries so far apply only to the stage you are on; every later stage starts from zero.

Items, chances and waits per stage

9050Leaders' Notes60%90%22 hours

9420Wisdom Jewel10%60%24 hours

The wait starts at every delivery. Up to level 90 the next delivery is possible one second after the 22 hours; on level 92 and level 94 it is possible on that exact second. The finishing success adds no further wait, and a new stage opens without a timer.

The elixir changes the roll, not the clock

Researcher's Elixir raises the chance of the next delivery and is used up. It does not shorten the wait, it cannot be used while a wait is running, and it needs the research item in your inventory. After the delivery, successful or not, the effect ends, so each delivery needs its own elixir for the higher chance.

On level 30 the elixir alone gives 90%, and 92% with a research pet summoned. No later stage tests for the pet, so a range past level 30 keeps the elixir chance on the other stages. Ten deliveries with the elixir need ten elixirs.

Shortest, average and a chance budget

The shortest time is the successes you still need, plus the wait already running, plus one wait between each remaining delivery. The average divides the remaining successes by the chance: at 60%, 10 successes average 16.67 deliveries. Bringing only the average leaves a real chance of running short.

A budget is the number of deliveries that finishes the whole selected range with the chance you pick, such as 95%. Each stage gets the smallest number of deliveries that, multiplied with the others, reaches that chance; the rolls are independent and keep the chance of the boost you chose. The calculator shows the chance the budget actually reaches. Items you already own are subtracted, research items and elixirs separately, and if the research finishes early the rest stays in your inventory.

The research calculator set to level 30: Orc Tooth for Biologist Chaegirab, no elixir, planned for a 95% finish chance.

Level 30 with no elixir: 10 successes at 60% give the shortest, average and 95% budget times.

Soul stones and the next stage

After the last successful delivery most stages ask for a soul stone; level 30 asks for Jinunggyi's Soul Stone. Handing it over does not roll again. Level 92 has no soul stone and ends with a choice of one bonus. The next stage also needs its level, and the time to travel and to hunt research items or soul stones is not part of the research time.
